Electrical isolation test device for mining

Australian company Redbusbar is now supplying DeadEasy — a three-phase test device for electrical isolations, easy enough for even non-electricians to use.

DeadEasy is a three-phase, “Test for Dead” test device that provides non-electricians with a simple and safe method of verifying MCC (Motor Control Centre)-based electrical isolations, according to the company.

DeadEasy employs a user-initiated self-test function. Confirming isolations is a three-step procedure. Isolator On = Red Lamp, Isolator Off = Green Lamp, and Self Test Activated = Red Lamp.

DeadEasy installation is also designed to be simple and consumes minimal MCC space, making it suitable for both new and retrofit applications.

According to Redbusbar, a recent survey conducted by the company of electrical engineers at some of Australia’s top mines revealed that they view 'verification of isolation' as being time consuming, unreliable and potentially-dangerous. The new DeadEasy product is designed to make the lives of both engineers and non-engineers in the industry easier.

Redbusbar developed the product from real end-user trials, allowing Redbusbar to develop a product to suit real industry needs. Trial participants were chosen from answers given to a survey conducted on their business.

Trial participants consisted of some major Australian mining players, including Xstrata Coal - Abbot Point Bulkcoal, Rio Tinto Alcan - Weipa, North Queensland Metals - Pajingo Gold Mine, and Newlands Coal - Xstrata.

Redbusbar is an Australian developer of electrical isolation technology products.
